I spent my first 5 years of professional life at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, working on daylighting and thermal energy analysis of buildings. Then, in 1991, I joined the Light and Radiation Group at ENTPE (National School of State Public Works). I have been working on daylight ever since, taking care of the IDMP station.

I have been involved in various European and International research projects on the characterization of daylight availability. I completed my PhD thesis in 1995, on the analysis, modeling and use of climatic information, to evaluate the performance of daylighting systems.

Through my thesis'work, I developed a computer tool called Meteolux, which in combination with the
Genelux light simulation program, allows to compute hour by hour illuminances on any surface of a room.

Apart from my work in daylighting, I have developed a special interest in graphic design for scientists. I have been very much influenced by the work of the american Tufte. I have tried to apply his ideas to my work (an example is the
TIMElux program available in the Software Library). I have contributed to the graphical interface of this server.

I am part of the CIE (International Commission on Illumination) where I act as the secretary of division 3 (interior lighting) and as one of the two secretaries of Technical Committee 3.25 (coordination of the IDMP).

My present work focuses on the spectral characterization of daylight and on the production of a daylight and solar radiation database using satellite images: the SATELLIGHT European research project. This database will be available on a web server.

For several years, I have taught programming, desktop publishing, and computer aided design, at the School of Architecture in Lyon. In 1989, I joined the Light and Radiation Group at ENTPE, to work on simulations with the Genelux program.

I have worked on daylight studies for the Louvres and the Ceret modern art museums. I have contributed to the design of daylight efficient classrooms in Porrenthruy, Switzerland.

Apart from my work in daylighting, I have developed various computer tools to help in analyzing the availability of daylight and the penetration of sunlight, inside buildings. Most of these tools use the PostScript graphic language. I have also worked on a multimedia project using ToolBook on a PC.

For the last two years, I focused on the development of web servers using HTML and Java. The first web server that I designed was for ENTPE. This web server is the second one. One of its special features is that all the information on the IDMP stations is centralized in a database, from which HTML pages are automatically generated.

My present work includes using Java, for the development of the SATELLIGHT web server, and for the development of tools for the web version of Genelux.
