Obstruction for the global
horizontal illuminance sensor

Comments

The vertical sensors are shaded from ground reflected light using order-made shade screen. All the illuminance and irradiance sensors were calibrated by the manufacturers in March 1990. The sky scanner was calibrated also by the manufacturers in May 1993 and set on the top of the measuring tower.
Since the global illuminance sensor is on the top of the tower, there are no obstructions above the horizontal line except a pole of the anemometer and the lightning rod. Since the diffuse illuminance and irradiance sensors are below the tower, it obstructs those sensors. The ratio of obstructions to the whole sky is about 4% in horizontal projection.

A view of the station looking northeast. The direct solar illluminance and irradiance sensors on their sun tracker are seen on the right. On the left are the diffuse illuminance and irradiance sensors. Four sets of vertical illuminance and irradiance sensors and two thermometers (air temperature and dew point temperature) are attached to the side of the tower.
