Site surroundings:

The station is located atop our Auckland research center in Parnell, approximately 2 km from downtown Auckland and 15 km from the airport. Auckland Harbour is approximately 0.5 km distance. There are no significant hills within the area and no large buildings obstructing the view. No significant sources of pollution.

Climate characteristics:

Warm, humid summers, mild winters with an annual average temperature of 15.3°C. Average temperature in January is 19.5°C and in July 11.3°C. Annual rainfall is 1000 mm to 1500 mm with a maximum in winter. Prevailing wind SW, but occasional strong gales and heavy rains from E or NE.
Average yearly sunshine duration of 2100 hours.

Comments

The direct and diffuse horizontal sensors (four in total) are mounted in a sun tracker. The field of view of the direct sensors is limited to 5° with a slope angle of 1.0°. The photometers are thermostated at 35°C. These use components such that f1 and f2 are both <1.5%. Some meteorological data, collected at the neaby airport (15 km), is available.
